For nearly nine years,
Master Police Patrol Training Officers, Tim Bradley and Lucia
Wroblewski have been calling on the Children's Crisis Response
to help them with cases of family crisis involving youth.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Tim and Lucia about why
they refer youth and families to the Children's Crisis Response,
how the program assists them in their duties, and the evolving
partnership with the Children's Crisis Response.
“We learned about the Children's Crisis Response nine
years ago…”
Lucia states, “When I first learned about the Children's
Crisis Response, Tim and I were immediately hooked. We get
so many calls to homes that really don’t need police
involvement; they need immediate family counseling. Police
officers are not counselors. Unless there is criminal activity,
we legally can’t do much to resolve the situation. By
having the Children's Crisis Response to call on, we now have
a resource to help families.” Tim adds, “That’s
what is so great about the Children's Crisis Response. You
come to families’ homes right away, when they really
need help. I tell families; the Children's Crisis Response
is like pizza delivery…they are there within 30 minutes
of your call.”
“The Children's Crisis Response and the Police Department
have a wonderful partnership…”
Currently, more than 30% of families served by the Children's
Crisis Response are referred by the Police Department. The
Police Department and the Children's Crisis Response have
a valued partnership. Lucia says, “It really does feel
like a team between the police and the Children's Crisis Response.”
Tim also adds, “We have become quite close to the Children's
Crisis Response. On my police officer “Batman”
utility belt I have many devices. I have handcuffs, gun, ammunition,
gloves, and most importantly a cell phone with the Children's
Crisis Response phone number on speed dial.”
