Most middle school students
are well-behaved kids: they follow directions in class, get
along with their fellow students and teachers, and earn good
grades. However, there are a few students who engage in behavior
that disrupts class and threatens both the learning environment
and the safety of other students. These are the students that
repeatedly get kicked out of class, suspended from school,
and are likely to eventually drop out.
Our Middle School Behavior Intervention Program is designed
to work one-on-one with students with behavior problems. We
hold them accountable and provide them with support and guidance.
We encourage them to take responsibility for their behavior,
set goals for their future, and follow through. The results
are two-fold: first of all, individual students improve their
school performance. Secondly, with fewer disruptions, schools
become a place where teachers can focus on teaching and students
can focus on learning.
Behavior Intervention Program Outcomes: |
- This year, our Behavior Intervention
Specialists will serve 175 students attending St.
Paul Public Middle Schools.
- Outcome data indicates that this
program is having a positive impact: 79% of the students
served during the school year improved their classroom
behavior.
